Every writer needs support …

C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and other big-name writers were members of a writing group known as the Inklings. They met at an Oxford pub called The Eagle and Baby and exchanged thoughts and writing critique. They also had in-depth discussions about faith and writing, not always agreeing on the best method to combine these. Even when they had differing views, the goal of their meetings was to support, encourage and challenge each other.

The writing industry has changed drastically since the original Inklings met. There are more opportunities for writers, but also many more challenges. Rejections pile up. Book sales tank. Marketing takes up time. It’s difficult to balance writing with work and family life. It’s no surprise that negative thoughts creep in. You might even feel like giving up. You’re not alone. Writers all share the same struggles. That’s why I created a new Inklings group.

If you’re looking for an encouraging writing community to share the ups and downs with, sign up for the mailing list.

What this group is

  • A faith-based group with guest speakers and discussion. (I’m still working on the best platform and format for the group).

  • A safe, inclusive place for building up and encouraging other writers. All writers are welcome.

  • A space for Christian writers and non-Christian writers and anyone who falls somewhere in-between.

  • A space for authors of any genre of fiction or non-fiction.

What this group is not

  • A critique group (at this point we don’t share writing, but we can match up people looking for critique partners).

  • A place for harsh views that cause division or tear down others. When we disagree, we do so with love and respect, holding relationships and the dignity of others above all else.

  • A space to dictate how Christian writers should write. We hold space for Christian writers who write Christian material and those who do not.

  • A space for political discussions or moralizing. We are writers from different countries with a range of political, theological and ethical views.

  • "Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body."

    Proverbs 16:24

  • "Wise words are like deep waters; wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook."

    Proverbs 18:4

  • "Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them."

    Ephesians 4:29

  • "A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare."

    Proverbs 15:1
